, Associate Professor of Public Health in Falk College, was quoted in the Syracuse.com article “” Professor Larsen, an expert on infectious disease and public health, “questioned the state’s results” from COVID-19 testing across Central New York “because the sample was not random.” He said, “people who got tested had a reason to get tested, and the biggest reason to go get tested is if you thought you had it and want to know if you had it.” This is a case of convenience sample, and Professor Larsen said that this likely means a higher positive rate of infection for Central New York than it truly is.
