More than 200 Syracuse City School District (SCSD) high school students will visit the SU campus May 24-26 for the first ever Say Yes Music and Youth Convention. A partnership of the , the Purpose District of the New York Central Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, the SCSD and the SU Chancellor’s Office, the conference focuses on the development of new student leaders and Say Yes ambassadors within city neighborhoods.
Throughout the weekend, high school students will become fully immersed in the SU campus experience. Students will stay in dorm rooms, attend educational workshops and enjoy a closing concert featuring the acclaimed gospel singer Kim Burrell.
Say Yes is currently seeking workshop proposals from faculty and staff interested in sharing their technical expertise and knowledge with conference participants. The weekend workshops will explore a wide range of topics and aim to spark the students’ interests in scholarship and potential careers. Some possible themes include leadership and civic engagement, health and wellness, education and music, and the arts.
“All workshop presenters are encouraged to be creative, flexible and diverse with their desired workshop proposal,” says Say Yes to Education Program Director Vincent Cobb. “The themes above are general topics that welcome expansion and innovation.”
It’s important that all proposed workshops support the vision of the convention, which is to empower youth to become leaders in their schools, neighborhoods and homes.
The deadline for submissions is April 2. Detailed guidelines for proposals and presenters can be found on the Say Yes .
