A September tradition, the Westcott Street Cultural Fair, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 23, from noon-6:30 p.m. An annual one-day event, now in its 21st year, the fair celebrates the vibrancy, diversity and uniqueness of the Westcott neighborhood through its culture—visual and performing arts, food, service organizations and activities geared to families and SU and Le Moyne students returning to the neighborhood.
As in previous years, this fair will include eclectic music and dancing, handmade goods and foods from around the world.
The fair is sponsored by the Westcott Area Cultural Coalition in partnership with the Westcott Community Center. Co-sponsors include the City of Syracuse, WAER 88.3 and the Cultural Resources Council. The fair is powered by more than 100 SU student volunteers each year, and this year organizers are aiming for the highest number of student volunteers and hours served ever.
The fair will kick off at noon with a parade down Westcott Street, beginning at the Westcott Community Center. There is plenty to do for the kids, including a Kids Corner with shows, face painting and interactive crafts and games, and Kids Races on Victoria Place (race registration begins at 12:30 p.m. at Kids Corner). A used book sale will be held inside Petit Library.
A full afternoon of entertainment is planned on several stages throughout the fair—the WAER Main Stage (at Dorian’s); the Common Threads Acoustic Stage (at Taps); the Multicultural Stage (at Papa John’s); the Kids Corner Stage (at Petit Library), the Dance Stage (at Wacheva) and the Belly Dance Stage (at Abdos). A full schedule of entertainment can be found at .
