K. Matthew Dames has been appointed interim associate dean for Research, Collections and Scholarly Communication (RCSC) at the Syracuse University Library.
Dames, a member of the Dean’s Team in his capacity as director of the Copyright and Information Policy office, will lead the RCSC department, which comprises the head of collections, bibliographers and subject specialist librarians who serve as liaisons to the University’s academic departments. RCSC also maintains the SU’s institutional repository, SUrface.
RCSC’s priority activities include:
• Fostering creative exchange across disciplines and colleges through imaginative partnerships and collaborative programs;
• Advancing faculty and student excellence by providing essential collections matched with subject-specific teaching and instruction services;
• Encouraging open access to and ensuring long-term preservation of the research and creative output produced at Syracuse University for discovery and use by faculty, students and the broader academic community.
Dames is a graduate of Syracuse University, Northeastern University School of Law, the City University of New York and the Hackley School. Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies awarded him its doctoral prize in 2011 for his research, “The Piracy Paradigm: Framing U.S. Copyright Law.”
Dames can be reached at 443-8508 or kmdames@syr.edu. He also blogs at Copycense.com.
