On the heels of Syracuse University’s “Guns and America” dialogue, the city of Syracuse is about to embark on a similar event aimed at increasing public discussion on the issue. The Landmark Theater will play host to “Stop the Violence, A Discussion on Guns in our Community” on Thursday, March 21, from 3-5 p.m. Students are invited to attend, and bus service will be provided from Schine Student Center.
Among those taking part is actor Khalil Kain, who appeared in the movie “Juice” and on the TV show “Girlfriends.” Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner, Police Chief Frank Fowler, Common Councilor Helen Hudson, Trauma Response Team member Timothy Jennings-Bey and Pastor Daren Jaime from the People’s A.M.E. Zion Church will be taking part in the discussion.
Hudson was also a panelist during the “Guns and America” discussion that took place last month at Hendricks Chapel. She is the founding member of Mothers Against Gun Violence, having lost a stepson to an act of gun violence in 2005. is free and open to the public.
