Justin Shukat ’96, founding partner and president of Primary Wave Music Publishing and general manager of Primary Wave Music, will present a lecture on Tuesday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lender Auditorium, located on the concourse level of the Martin J. Whitman School of Management.
The lecture is part of the Bandier Program’s Soyars Leadership Lecture Series in the ’ (VPA) Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music. It is open to the University community.
Shukat is responsible for new writer signings and content acquisitions. He also oversees all areas of Primary Wave’s synch exploitation. Alongside his partners and CEO Larry Mestel, Shukat has created a unique entertainment company that has grown from a catalog acquisition company to a full-service music publisher, management and branding company in seven years.
Shukat’s working music career began at the Montreux Jazz Festival and was followed by various positions at Walter Yetnikoff’s Velvel Records. He then moved on to senior marketing positions at both Arista and Epic Records prior to launching Primary Wave in 2006. During his career he has worked with top-selling artists, including Cee Lo Green, Avril Lavigne, Carlos Santana, Toni Braxton, Run-D.M.C, Barry Manilow, Judas Priest, Tori Amos and Outkast. He is a 1996 graduate of the Whitman School.
