During the past two months, more than 1,000 faculty and staff have come together at several One University events. The goal of the events, which have taken place at the University’s Chancellor’s House on Comstock Avenue, is to bring together small groups of faculty and staff from across a range of academic and administrative units to meet, talk and get to know each other a little better.
At a recent event on Friday afternoon the first snow of the season was falling outside, but the atmosphere inside the house was warm and inviting. Chancellor Kent Syverud and his wife, Dr. Ruth Chen, professor of practice in the , welcomed University faculty and staff for a lunchtime One University reception.
Chancellor Syverud and Dr. Chen talked with and mingled among their guests, learning about them and their work, hearing their ideas to make the University even better, and sharing about themselves.
This reception was specifically scheduled to allow staff members who have earlier workday hours, such as Physical Plant and Dining Services, to attend. Other community members attending Friday’s reception represented the College of Arts and Sciences, Comptroller’s Office, Office of Community Engagement and Economic Development, College of Law, Parking and Transit Services, the Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, Financial Aid Services, the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Hendricks Chapel, Whitman School of Management, Food Services and the Steam Station.
On Tuesday, an additional group of faculty and staff from the College of Arts and Sciences; the Honors Program; Food Services; Department of Athletics; the Carrier Dome; the College of Visual and Performing Arts; Campus Planning, Design and Construction; Energy Systems and Sustainability Management; Engagement Initiatives; Enterprise Application Systems; the School of Education; the Faculty Center; the Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics; the Forensic Science Institute; Goldstein Dining; the Graduate School; the College of Engineering and Computer Science; the Office of Human Resources; Project Advance; the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications; the Office of the Registrar; Technical Systems and Services; the Tutoring and Study Center and the Institute for Veterans and Military Families attended.
Since arriving at Syracuse in January, Chancellor Syverud and Dr. Chen have opened the University’s Chancellor’s House to the full campus community and have hosted thousands of students, faculty, staff and alumni there since that time. As part of One University initiative, every faculty and staff will ultimately be invited to attend a One University event.
