Paul Wylde, creative director of the Aviation Studio at Teague in Seattle, will give the talk “Design is Dead, Long Live Design” on Friday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m. in The Warehouse Auditorium, first floor of The Warehouse, 350 W. Fayette St., Syracuse. A reception will follow the lecture, which is free and open to the public. Limited parking is available at the Warehouse East lot. Patrons are encouraged to use Connective Corridor bus service.
The lecture is sponsored by the Department of Design in Syracuse University’s (VPA). Live streaming of the talk will be provided in The Warehouse lobby to accommodate patrons if the auditorium is filled.
Wylde, whose 51-member team at Teague develops future aircraft cabin designs for Boeing in addition to a number of international airline brands, will speak on his journey through the field of design, his work at Teague and the ever-changing landscape of the design—where it is today, where it has come from and where it is going in a context of technology, environment, society and the economy.
Wylde has a passion for understanding consumer trends and translating implications to design insight. He has a proven track record in nurturing and driving innovation in large-scale, multi-national companies.
Before recently joining Teague, Wylde worked in New York City as creative director for Imagination (USA) Inc., where he led the strategic and creative output of the agency for a number of international clients, including Johnson & Johnson and the airline alliance, oneworld. Prior to Imagination, he was the creative director of the Advanced Communications and Concepts team of BMW Group DesignworksUSA. There he led brand, positioning and design strategy projects for BMW and Rolls-Royce, in addition to many outside clients, including Airbus, Embraer, Dassault and Microsoft. He was also a personal strategic consultant to Chris Bangle, group design director.
Wylde regularly gives presentations and lectures on design management, corporate identity and branding at events and conferences across the world. In 1997, he was invited to Buckingham Palace to meet Queen Elizabeth in recognition of his services to design. He has appeared on BBC 2 and Dutch television and is a visiting lecturer at the London School of Marketing, Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design and London Metropolitan University.
