Taylor writes book on Vladimir Putin’s presidency and Russian state-building

Political science professor Brian Taylor of the Maxwell School has written “State Building in Putin’s Russia: Policing and Coercion after Communism” (Cambridge University Press, 2011), which argues that while building a strong Russian state was the central goal of Putin’s presidency, his strategy was fundamentally flawed.

Taylor shows that many of the weaknesses of the Russian state that existed under Boris Yeltsin continued under Putin.
