Rising star guitarists Gohar Vardanyan and Jon Fitzgerald will be featured in a concert presented by the Great Lakes Guitar Society (GLGS) on Friday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at XL Projects, 307-313 S. Clinton St., Syracuse.
Tickets for the concert are $10 for the general public, $7 for students and senior citizens and free for GLGS members. Tickets may be purchased online at or at the door.
The program will feature the two guitarists performing solo works by various composers, including Agustín Barrios Mangoré, Manuel Ponce and Joaguin Rodrigo. The eclectic set will display the expressive versatility of the guitar and its evocative colors. The audience can expect moments of profound lyricism and visceral intensity.
Guitar International Magazine has described Vardanyan as “the complete package” with “… a musicality and emotional quality … that one would expect from someone much older than the young wunderkind. Not only is she able to draw you into her performances with engaging musical interpretations, but she has the technical facility that is required of any concert level guitarist.”
Fitzgerald is appearing as the third prize and Audience Choice Award winner of the 2011 Great Lakes Guitar Festival Competition. He is a current candidate for the doctor of musical arts degree at the Eastman School of Music.
The Great Lakes Guitar Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering an awareness and appreciation of the guitar and its repertoire through concerts, master classes and outreach in the Great Lakes region of the United States.
Vardanyan and Fitzgerald will also perform in Rochester, N.Y. on Saturday, Nov. 5, and Buffalo, N.Y. on Sunday, Nov. 6. For more information on the performers and events, visit or contact Michael Hardy at (585) 413-4337, or info@greatlakesguitarsociety.org.
