A new gateway sign to Syracuse’s Armory Square is set to be installed on Friday, Jan. 27, featuring a design that incorporates elements of the Connective Corridor, as well as the vibrancy of the arts, cultural and professional opportunities in the Armory Square area.

According to Robbi Farschman, director of the Connective Corridor, the sign’s design incorporates Connective Corridor branding components, including the red colors and circles, which are part of the Corridor’s logo.

“This sign is quite a piece of work with a lot of energy and spark!” says Farschman. “It’s just the kind of first impression befitting Armory Square and the variety of establishments that are there.”

To be located in a central Armory Square location bound by West, Walton and West Fayette streets, the new gateway sign replaces a current plywood sign and will benefit the branding of the Corridor and give visitors to Armory Square a more aesthetic welcome. It will be situated on property owned by the New York State Department of Transportation; SU received its approval to make this enhancement as part of the Connective Corridor with public funding from Empire State Development Corp. and Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.

The design was provided compliments of Eric Mower and Associates and was constructed by Kassis Signs, under the direction of PPS (Printing & Promotional Solutions), a local company in Armory Square.

“The sign reflects the creativity and style of Armory Square,” says Tony Ortega, president of the Armory Square Association. “We are very pleased with Eric Mower & Associates dynamic design and are grateful to Syracuse University, the Connective Corridor and the state of New York for helping make this outstanding gateway sign possible.”

The sign is scheduled to be installed beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday.
