How green is Hollywood? Get a sneak peek at what going green in the film industry really entails at the screening of “Greenlit,” an original film-within-a-film documentary about producing a sustainable Hollywood picture. “Greenlit” will be shown on Tuesday, April 10, at 7 p.m. in Watson Theater in the Menschel Media Center as part of the documentary series. Admission is free and open to the public.
According to a UCLA study, the film and television industry is the third biggest polluter in Los Angeles. In questioning the industry’s environmental impact, director Miranda Bailey puts their green commitment to the test as she follows the production of “The River Why,” which has hired a sustainability consultant to make the set greener. Bailey’s eco-documentary takes viewers through a well-intentioned, revealing and amusing attempt at moviemaking that treads lightly on the environment.
³“” uncovers the difficulties of going green on a movie set, it also provides insight into the money-saving opportunities of creating a sustainable film, such as various reuse and recycling initiatives. How does everyone behind the scenes get involved in successfully creating a green Hollywood film? Complimentary refreshments will be provided, so please remember to bring your reusable cups, bottles, bowls, plates, utensils, etc., as this is a zero-waste event!
