Award-winning music industry executive Shanti Das, known as “The Hip-Hop Professional,” will present a lecture on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 6:30 p.m. in Lender Auditorium (Room 007), located on the concourse level of the . The lecture is part of the Bandier Program’s Soyars Leadership Lecture Series in the ’ (VPA) Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music and is open to the University community.
Das, a 1993 graduate of the , has been a force in the music industry for more than 20 years. She began her career as a promotions assistant for Capitol Records and then became national promotions director for LaFace Records. She then became senior director of urban marketing at Arista, vice president/senior vice president at Columbia Records/Sony Music and executive vice president of marketing and artist development at Universal Motown.
With her wealth of expertise in a broad range of musical genres, including hip-hop, R&B and pop, Das has helped many fellow and future music executives reach new heights. Artists she has worked with include Outkast, Usher and TLC, among many others.
Das is the author of “The Hip-Hop Professional 2.0” and founder of the College Chat Room college tour.
