Libraries’ Dean David Seaman has announced the appointment of Lucy Mulroney as senior director of the Special Collections Research Center (SCRC). She has served as interim in this role for more than a year and also holds a courtesy appointment in the Department of Art and Music Histories. Mulroney leads a diverse staff of specialists dedicated to preserving and providing access to the University’s signature rare and archival collections. Seaman noted Mulroney’s strengths in the administration of the department, the building and curation of the collections, and the promotion of primary materials in the undergraduate curriculum.
Mulroney is currently completing the manuscript for her book “Andy Warhol, Publisher,” which is under contract with the University of Chicago Press. Her previous publications include “One Blue Pussy” in Criticism, 56(3), “Editing Andy Warhol” in Grey Room 46, “Rereading the History of Photography” in Photography & Culture, July 2009, “Experiencing the Unexpected: Special Collections as a Springboard for Personal, Critical Approaches to Information,” (with Patrick Williams) in “Not Just Where to Click: Teaching Students How to Think About Information,” ACRL, 2015, and “I’d Recognize Your Voice Anywhere” in “Reading Andy Warhol,” Museum Brandhorst, 2013. She is co-curator (with Joan Bryant) of the current “Black Utopias” exhibition and curated “The Archive in Motion” (2014) and “Strange Victories: Grove Press 1951–1985” (co-curated with Susan Kline in 2013) exhibitions.
Prior to this position, Mulroney was curator of special collections at Syracuse University Libraries. She holds a Ph.D. in visual and cultural studies from the University of Rochester. Her research and teaching interests include modern art in the U.S., Europe and Latin America; the history and preservation of photography, film and performance-based works; and avant-garde publishing and the book trade.
