For the fourth consecutive year, the University’s Office of Electronic Media Communications has received an Emmy nomination from the New York State chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). “Remembering David Carr,” a documentary honoring the late New York Times journalist and Newhouse Mirror Awards recipient, aired on Public Broadcasting’s WNET last August.
The Emmy nomination was announced Tuesday from New York City. Robert Thompson, head of the ’s Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture; and Mary Karr, Jesse Truesdell Peck Professor of Literature in the , are prominently featured in the tribute, along with author Gay Talese, Stephen Colbert, Lena Dunham, Anthony Bourdain, Dean Bacquet and Tom Arnold. Author, journalist and Syracuse University alumnus Ken Auletta also took part.
Carr was honored posthumously at Newhouse’s Mirror Awards this past June for his impact, innovation and influence in the field of journalism. For the past 25 years, Carr wrote about media as it intersects with business, culture and government. Carr was also the author of the memoir “The Night of the Gun.”
Electronic Media Communications Executive Producer and Director Stu Lisson credits the documentary’s success to his team and Carr’s many friends in the field of journalism and entertainment who took part in the tribute.
