Lucy Mulroney, senior director of the (SCRC) at Syracuse University Libraries, has announced two key appointments.
Margaret Mason has been appointed university archivist, a position she has held in an interim capacity since 2015. Prior to this appointment, Mason was assistant records manager and archivist for Archives and Records Management from 2006-15. Before joining Syracuse University, she served as digital projects leader for the National Digital Library Program in the Manuscript Division of the Library of Congress. As university archivist, Mason will take a lead role in developing the university archives’ collections, cultivating donors and contributing to the strategic vision for the SCRC. She holds an M.A. in history and an M.L.I.S., both from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Andrew Saluti has been appointed chief curator of exhibitions, programs and education. Saluti has held the position of assistant director of the Syracuse University Art Galleries and the Palitz Gallery at Lubin House in New York City since 2003. He regularly teaches in the graduate program in museum studies and has been a faculty advisor for the annual master’s of fine arts exhibition. He has curated numerous exhibitions, among them the work of Amos Paul Kennedy Jr. (2009), early prints from the Art Students League of New York (2007) and a survey of Japanese woodcuts (2013). In this new position, Saluti will manage all facets of SCRC’s annual program of collection-based exhibitions and events, including the SCRC faculty fellows program, faculty-curated exhibitions, traveling and online exhibitions, visiting lectures, instruction sessions, performances and workshops. He holds an M.F.A. in printmaking from Louisiana State University and an M.A. in museum studies from Syracuse University.
“The Special Collections Research Center is embarking upon a new era of increased collaboration with faculty and experiential learning opportunities for students,” says Mulroney. “These two forward-facing positions are integral to establishing the SCRC’s role among the pre-eminent research centers here at Syracuse University. Both Meg Mason and Andrew Saluti bring records of professional excellence, scholarly commitment and creativity to the center’s leadership team. I’m thrilled about the future we will build together.”
