“Syracuse high schools seem to have right formula for graduation success, expert says.”
Joanna Masingila, Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor of Teaching Excellence and professor of mathematics and mathematics education in the School of Education, was interviewed for the WAER story “.” Masingila, who previously served as the Dean of the School of Education, explained that the district has done a phenomenal job at working as a team to improve the city’s graduation rates.
“I think this kind of sustained effort than I’ve seen in mathematics and I’m sure that has been happening in other areas too. I mean, for example, the information about the graduation rate among English language learners, that was phenomenal that it rose nearly 20% from the previous year. So, that shows to me that there is a systematic and sustained effort in really providing support to teachers and professional development and with everybody working for student success,” Masingila said.
